Self Portrait Challenge: Food and Me Week 4

This month wouldn't be complete if I didn't spend a little time exploring the professional relationship I have with food.
When I quit my job as a special education teacher to make more time for my caramel-making business, I had a lot of images of my glamorous new Martha stewart-esque life. I got rid of all the junky t-shirts and ripped jeans I wore when I spent my days chasing around little boys with autism, bought a bunch of dresses, went on a little bit of a shopping spree at Shu Uemra, and waited to feel like Martha. It didn't take long to learn that being covered in corn syrup is far from glamorous and that no one wears dresses and well-applied make-up in a bakery with no air conditioning in August. Sure, perfect strangers tell me that I am "their goddess" and my caramels and I get to be invited to the same events as Elizabeth Falkner and her pastries, but all in all my new life hasn't quite lived up to the fantasy. So, I took the picture above of what the fantasy looks like, so I could at least try it on.

This is *THE BEST* SP I've seen in ages! I love it! You totally fit the bill, you know, there's no doubt about it. Looking at this, honestly, one would think you always look like this.
The shoes, the dress, the apron... the shop background! Just stunning!
Vx
You, and this shot, look incredible!!! I love your store, it is gorgeous, too!
Even though the look is a fantasy, your work sounds fulfilling & enjoyable :)
This is so retroesque and colorful. I love it:)jygw
This should immediately go on all your brochures and such. You look like a gorgeous confection yourself. I think I'll be in SF over the winter. Methinks I've got to stop and sample a caramel.
This is a fantastic picture and it reminds me of the idealism of the housewife's life in the 50's. I'm just a self-taught baker and cook and I don't know how many clothes I ruined through the years. I now where my husband's old karate jacket as a chef jacket now and you should see the carnage.
This was truly a fascinating concept of a photo, I am glad you shared the back story with us and man, I love caramel.
fantastic! this is my favorite this week.
this is such a great shot. has a real vintage feel. my favorite so far!!
I think there was a glitch on the spc site - all the submissions were deleted at some point yesterday! I hope you'll go repost this, because it is the best I've seen this week & deserves to be shared some more :)
